Emergency replacement in a cubbyhole

around 2 am . Me and Phil started ripping it out before the salesman had a chance to get there . Which was late - around 10:30 am .

Who in their right mind would squeeze a boiler in such a spot ? Well , the homeowner would . He told us he was a recently retired boiler installer . And he helped pipe in this Blueray . There's also a Phase 3 connected , on the other side of the wall in the garage . The 2nd pic is the garage . You can just make out the indirect on the left side , behind the ....... everything . What a mess . And no room to even put the new one together . Phil decided to dress it up near the truck with the weather in the teens .

Comments

  • We used the Burnham

RSA 125 and Riello burner . Same ol' situation - the boiler is very hard to level with the flat bottom . And the initial burnoff had the homeowners thinking the house was on fire .

I know clearance issues are prevalent . Well , with the weather this cold , we gotta give them heat . The owner told us he was planning on moving the boiler to the garage in the spring . I hope he finds the room .

    Where's the after?

I bet the homeowner said "forgive the mess we're in the middle of cleaning and my daughter in law is storing her stuff here while she moves"
  • Man Todd , you're fast

I'm too slow pecking the words out with my 2 fingers . You shoulda seen the boiler room before we started .

Do you have a file of jobs you could send me ?

    Give me a shout

    Scott
  • Cool , can't wait to see the pics

I'm positive your guys work is fantastic . I have a laptop with a built in card reader . It makes downloading the pics a snap . After the 1st few batches of pics , he'll be a pro . Thanks alot Todd .

    taco lwco

I see you guys are using these now. What's the deal with the water quality indicator? I had a couple of these things go off on low water and I couldn't find anything in the instructions on how to set them.

Don's a single parent of 4. I'm happy to have him make it on time to work every day, so I don't want to keep bugging him about what he's doing at night. I'll forward him this post and maybe it'll motivate him - RIGHT DON.
  • Sure , I got a boatload of pics

I'll burn a CD and mail it out to you . I'd try to email but the upload time is ridiculous . Just give me an address . Thanks Scott , I really appreciate your comments .

    You know

I saw the word cubbyhole and had no doubt you did it..:) Another awsome outcome to a very lousy situation. :( I can't post pic's, everything I have done lately is tin work (and I hate tin!!!). But have a steamer coming up soon and hope to do a drop header on it. Have to try and keep up with your beautiful work!!!!

Come on Ron.....these are doctored pitchers.......... arn't they..... Again...WOW

    Damn!

Let me guess....That drain is positioned right behind where the washing machine is usually stationed Right?

What posses people to do things like this? Do they ever think that service WILL be required? Wish I had some pictures of some of the wicked ones I did back in the other company. About the same mentality in home owners thinking, then when you tell them you have to tear down a wall to service the heater they freak out.

I just don't get it. Nice work Ron. Tried to get to the new job today, but that didn't happen. Chris
  • I hate tin also

I always go home with a few deep gashes from doing a furnace . Hey , are you hooked on the drop header too ? Gotta see the pics when that ones done . Thanks again Lchmb .
  • Me ? Doctor up pics ?

Not in my wildest nightmares would I be able to come up with worse places to put a boiler . You can't tell me you don't see jobs like this where you work ? Long Island can't be the only place where this practice is common ? It's a catch-22 over here , plenty of work but it's always in a place like this . My most common phrase when we get to the job is " what the fu%# were they thinking ? " Thanks alot Sootmonkey .

    am I hooked?

The second I saw the first pic month's ago posted by YOU!! :) without a doubt, I have been waiting for a nice steamer system to put one in!! And thank's to someone forgetting to wire in the LWCO properly I now have one..:(
  • That drain

and a hot and cold drain valve were hooked into nothing . There was a big metal shelf in front of the drain , full of old , used plumbing and heating parts . Right in the way of getting to the boiler . The owner told us he was up since 1:30 when the boiler let go . Hmmm , and the thought of clearing a path to the boiler or cleaning up the garage for room for us to work didn't cross your mind ?

Somehow , someone got in there to service the boiler . I could tell because there was a thimble on the fluepipe and multiple drill screw holes . Whoever installed the indirect with the owner cheated - they took down the wall on the right side to pipe it in .

I would love to see some of the headaches you've been on . I'm glad we're not the only ones who work in misery . Thanks alot Chris .
  • We switched

to another brand , I think it's Hydrolevel . This was one of the last Tacos we have . I'm also in the dark about the water quality nob . I'll ask my serviceman buddy if he knows whats going on with them .

Don sounds like he has his hands full . And he makes it to work on time every day ? Damn , we got 20 year old helpers that can't do that . Don's the man !

You said the customer was retired boiler installer?
By the looks of his work, there's probably a reason for that!

    What an amazing difference

At least you won't have to worry about people piling stuff on top of this unit... where there is no room, there is no way!

Great job as always, Ron. Your boiler install looks like it's the highest-quality feature in the house.

From the looks of that garage,

The customer's name was Fibber McGee!

What went bad on the Blueray?

Nice install as usual. Was the Blueray leaking? Most of them are about 25 years old now and I recall that your company was the biggest installer of them on LI. They should keep you in work for a long time.

    Ron:

I am in LI, N. Bellmore, have been following your work and fairly new to the Wall here. Can you direct me to your company, would like to contact you for some recommendation/work and have you on file to service my heating system.

You can email me offline: neilp@servo.com
