Rock N Roll Furnace

Live in 200 yr old stone 2story. Furnace is 40 years old. Hoping to start addition this spring/summer. Will need 6 zones eventually. Current system is oil baseboard hot water and is RUSTED. Plumber did a steelwool patch job on boiler and now pressure is maintained around 10 - no higher than 15. Needless to say it pushes towards 20-25 when I am home alone and then I have to drain it and get pressure back down; that is when the pipes really start singing - like sneakers in the dryer!! We are trying to limp thru the winter with this furnace until construction begins and new system is installed BUT I KNOW IT'S GONNA BLOW at the most inconvenient time. Don't even get me started about the shower and the water pressure there (lack of). We are thinking Burnham, cast iron, tankless(?) for next furnace - what are your suggestions? What other brands should we be looking at and how much should we be paying for a new furnace installed (for now)? The furnace gets moved into the basement of the new addition when that gets underway (timing couldn't be better huh?) LOL!!! And so it goes. Thanks much!! :-)

    Hi

Sandi, I am sure other's will say this. But as to cost, that is something not discussed. There are so many variable's that it would be impossible to tell you whether it's good or bad. My opinion is find someone reputable, who you can check on their record, that will do and explain what you want and go with them. As to the Burnham, I have installed many. I find in my area that we have few issue's with them. I also find that they back up their product in an excellent manor. As to other type's of unit, that would come down to how much your willing to spend. Ask whoever you find to quote you on a number of unit's they would recommend. Also check to make sure part's are available in your area for whichever unit you purchase. Good luck this winter!!!

Utica boilers, but I don't care who makes them, avoid tankless coils..go with an Indirest as a seperate zone, and get hte bells and whistles. Outdoor reset etc.. pay now and save, or you can spend more and pay for it later...much later. Do it all at once and get the best system you can afford. Its cheaper in the long run.
