New House Inspection - Guess what I found

I just purchased a remodeled Home and did a thorough inspection the other night. It is shocking what one can find.. even in a home that belonged to the same family for 30 years. c/w small children and all.

Front Living Room Fireplace - Fresh air intake..
Terminates.. in the garage (near overhead doors, or should I say near the exhaust pipes of the cars)

Furnace Fresh Air Intake 2" off ground with no mesh. The only thing missing was a small sign above it "welcome to all mice"


I was planning to elbow that garage termination & push it out the wall (towards driveway), but this would still have potential for problem?. me thinks I better twist it straight up & punch it through the roof.
