I say no, they're a big nono on steam lines, customer says they've been there for five years and don't cause a problem.

I can't stand looking at them, mainly.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Dave

We've done "temporary repairs" to steam piping in the past using dresser couplings. I guess these temporary repairs have become "temporarily permenent" because we havn't been back to change them and there still working fine.

We've used them numerous times for "temporary repairs" and always had them work fine. Infact in one house it was at least 3 years later that we returned for something else and saw that the dresser had been holding up fine.
Weather or not the manufacturer recomends them for steam or not I don't know. But I do know they'll get you out of a bind.

    dresser couplings

    Hi Dave,

I'm with you man, I don't like the way they look, like a big band-aid. They scream, "Come fix me right."

That said, if they have the right gaskets in them, they will work. Make sure it is furnished with the steam gaskets, not the standard gaskets. Its a temperature thing.

    Best regards, Pat

    Thanks, Pat

I imagine that they must have the right gaskets, as they're not leaking after 5 seasons.:(

I've never used these things (Heating/cooling/refrig guy only- no plumbing...) personally, so I was a bit curious if my gun was loaded before I told this guy that they were real wrong.

Do they make a steam Fernco, too?:=}LOL.
