Although he certainly only could've been merely a scribe for Papa in the day. What you'll think? Mad Dog

That was my first thought, too.

But I don't know. Hard to say if he had any symbolism at all in mind.

Hard to say what a man like that would be thinking at any given moment, really. Makes you wonder how you go 67 years then decide to pull the plug like that. Sad.

He was crazy, raw, crude, riveting, brilliant, and honest all rolled into one. I'll miss him. I finally got around to finishing The Rum Diary last year. I always had to read his work in small doses. I always finished, but it always seemed like a real chore to get through his stuff.

I don't really compare him to Hemingway in my own mind when I'm reading what he wrote. I can burn through one of "papa's" books in one sitting, but never could I go more than a chapter or two with Dr. Thompson..........

I'll miss him. No doubt about that.

    He's off

somewhere riding the black Vincent Shadow going full tilt.

Blotted, blinded, hands on the keyboards thoughts pouring out like a bottle of Jim Beam. The fingers just won't work.

    Or Maybe .....

    It could be

that all the years of extreme partying caught up to him and he was terminal. I can see him saying," well, I'm going to go out with a bang!". He seems the type that would only do something head on.

    I guess we'll never know.

I don't think there is any doubt that he went out with a bang as you say. He's very lucky that he was able to do it. Most of us won't be in any condition to help ourselves across the threshold at the time that help is needed.

    the beast

He who rids himself of the beast is no longer a man HST would have never let the vulturs pick him apart while watching he wouldn't give them the enjoyment there,s probaly more to it then what we are hearing and being told .One of americas true shoot from the hip writer who view of everything may have seemed off centered to any body who wasn't at his level .I will truely miss him and the way in which he shared his experences with the rest of us peace MR. The man was on the edge

his whole life. None of us know the demons he was dealing with.

Also a life time of ingesting uncontrolled substances will kind of mess with your mind. Uhhh ... what was that .... wait ... huh ?

    Never mind

    Dr. Thompson

You have got to love a man who said "now I am not one to advocate guns, drugs or alchohol, but they have always worked for me!!" RIP Mr. Thompson.
