humidity

Our church recently change from steam to hot water heat. And the old organ is acting up more than usual...one thought was that the humidity of the building might be considerably lower now that we don't have steam heat and thus things in the old pipes might be drying up. I am not asking for organ experts....but is there that much moisture put out by a steam system? And if that turns out to be what is effecting the organ, what solutions are out there to put the moisture back in a 100 plus year old church?

hey dave
try going the the april air or honeywell sites, also maybe trane or carrier. There are certainly many humidification systems that can be put on steam and/or hot water systems and also stand alones. I don't really know how much humidity a steam system puts out, always thought they were real dry, but your organ problem sure does sound lijke it couod be humidity. Constant changes cause real havoc with pianers and organs0
