    Furnace overheating

I am working on an upflow gas furnace and the furnace keeps overheating. I am getting flashing red LED on circut board and the fault code is open limit circut. I thought at first it was the limit switch, but as I investigated the furnace, I found that the vent pipe from the inducer motor is exceptionly hot. I think the limit switch is doing its job. I disconected the vent pipe and checked/looked for obstructions and everything looked good. The iducer motor seems to be running but its very hot to the touch. Could the isducer motor be intermittently going bad and causeing my problem? I would appreciate any comments and help in this area. Thanks, Robert.

    Inducer motor

Its possible that your furnace may be overfired check your temp rise make sure its within range of furnace specs.

Have you checked the filter and coil(s) to see if they are clogged. What about duct sizes? When I find open limit swithches I go right to those 2 things. Check the temp. rise with filter in then with it out. Alot of these so called "efficient" filters can really kill the air flow in systems. Good luck.

    How much

How much flow are you getting out of the vent? It is also possible that the blades on the motor are gone.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the temp rise with filter in and out to see where I'm at. If temp rise is high can I increse blower speed to bring the temp rise down. Also, the coil looks fine.

Thanks for the info. I went on the roof and checked the vent pipe and it is venting how much I really couldn't tell. It sure does seem like its possible the inducer fan blades could be shot. I'll pull the fan off tomorrow and check.

Definetely check filter. Are you at altitude by chance above sea level? If so it sounds like air/fuel mixture is off. Might want to check manifold gas pressure . Check what manufacturer requires for manifold pressure .

    I dont think

pressure switch would close unless d.i. was pulling enough vacuum. Although thats not a guarantee.

Would you please share with us the...

Brand and model# of the furnace, and the exact code light sequence you are seeing. This should provide more insight into your problem.
