Hi Chuck,
I had a similar situation for a remodel/addition we did in DC last year. The existing structure had a one pipe steam system. The addition just about doubled the size of the house. We replaced the steam boiler and restored the steam system (vents, valves, piping). We used an MZ wall hung boiler to feed the low temp radiant zones in the addition and added an indirect for DHW. I will see if I can dig up some photos of this project when I'm in the office tomorrow. Good luck with your project! -DF

I have a question, about doing panel rads, radaint and steam. I want to try to tie all three systems. What I want to do is panels with a homerun manifold, radiant, and have the steam work well. I was thinking of setting up an indirect water heater, to use, for the distribution. This would uncouple the tank from the steam. does that sound right? any input would be great.
thanks,

Sounds like it would work
but depending on the load, it may be better to use two separate boilers. This would also give you some redundancy in case one boiler broke down.

I'd do that.
You must keep the boiler water clean, to get life out of the pumps.
Here's how I've done it. Jeff has a copy of this, too.

I know you didn't ask me.................................BUT!!!!
I'll tell ya my two cents anyway Chuckie...because I have done quite a bit of work with those 3 in conjunction. Yep, you can save 'em some $$$ intially, but you are much better off keeping them totally seperate via a dedicated boiler. The only thing I really do off a steam boiler now is a hydronic zone for a small extension or room. Just a lot of nuisance callbacks, can be noisy, pumps and other components take a real beating as Noel and the others said. I like Foley's Idea...I'll have to read Noe;l's article. Mad Dog
