Another steam boiler that has seen its best days

This Smith boiler is probably 40 years old. It has no Harford loop and wasn't working when I saw it. I don't like the exposed oil line next to the boiler, either. There is asbestos pipe insulation all around it, as well..

An old SMITH 20 Mills made in Westfield about 12 miles from here. I like the "Texaco Beckett" we used to buy these from Union Oil in Revere. They were cheaper than the Becketts at the supply house!

Yup, George is right the coil of copper is an air cushon probably has (or had) a McDonnell Miller 101 feeder that would hammer the piping when it closed.

Probably more than 40 years old with the little coal door at the bottom.

Still using a stack switch. I think the protective paper on the transformer adds a nice touch.

These boilers had several incarnations on a low base fired "through the door" as a 200L model and others. Pretty good boiler in it's day. I installed many of these in the 70s

I can't remember when they stopped making these probably when the series 19 wetbase came out.

This was SMITH country around here.
