Wood Boiler Backup

I would like to install a separate wood fired boiler in addition to an existing oil unit to heat my home. Would like to be able to have the oil boiler fire when the wood goes out, but avoid circulating water through the oil boiler during wood use and vice-versa. Is this easily accomplished? Or should I consider a combination unit?

Easy enough
with a primary secondary piping setup. I think the better deal is two separate boilers. Stick with a name brand oil fired that is easily serviced and supported in your area.
A two stage boiler control or a differental control could fire the oil fired as the loop temperature drops to a predetermined setting.

Thanks hot rod, will it also be possible to prevent circulating hot water through the boiler that is not in use to avoid having those ever valuable btu's go up the stack?0 -
That's the beauty of
a properly piped P/S systems. The uncoupling of the various flows.
