We just installed our first and it was defective.

Installed two of them.

Both had the secondary temp sensor to override on a call for hot water. No complaints.

I have installed several. They do not seem very responsive to load like a true outdoor reset control is (especially on single zone systems) but they do increase the high limit's effective differental which reduces short cycling and helps reduce fuel usage.
