Leaking Valve - Hot Water Radiator

Member Posts: 23
I own a condo in an old brownstone, circa 1890's. There are 10 other units in this building.
The floor valve on one of our hot water radiators is leaking water. Before I call a professional, is there something I can do or check?
Is is hard to repack the stem? Should I just replace the valve? Are these jobs better left to the professionals?
Thanx

Sometimes you can just tighten the packing nut slightly and stop the leak--be careful since everything is brass and relatively soft. Not difficult to repack, but probably not much chance of finding pre-formed packing. You have to drain the system below the affected valve of course...0 -
Thank You Mike T
Tightening the valve nut was the fix. Saved me lots of time, money and grief.
These old radiators get real hot in the winter and my renter turns the valve on and off daily. That is probably how the nut loosened.
Thanx again0
