Steam radiator cracked

We have a house with a one pipe steam system. The large radiator in the kitchen is cracked and consistently puts out steam. It's the only radiator in the kitchen so we cannot shut it off, but the condensation in the room is incredible.
The is someone where I work who has a similar size forced hot water radiator he is willing to give us for $50. Is there anyway I can make this work with my steam system?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Why not?

$50 seems fair, offer him 25.

You need to get the bushing out of the bottom tapping and the air vent should be moved from the top of the section to the middle or lower third of the section. It may already be tapped and plugged or there should be a boss you could drill and tap. worse case , leave the air vent in the top of the section.

    A bit easier...

Than trying to go from steam to hot water but the risks are the same. Before doing anything pressure test the radiator and look for any rust spots. Water being forced through rads. for long periods of time can make some spots thin and you definately want to know if it is the case BEFORE installing it.

I suggest full house pressure for the test. I would also leave it there for a full day just to make sure. (Don't even ask how I know this,I was just following directions and the insurance company weren't so darn happy after the rust let the water through....)Chris
