Radiant Using Solar

Anyone have any experience or comments using solar for radiant floor warming. A secondary heating system will be used for the space (hydro-air). Can it pay if install costs can be minimized (heating contractor's own home).

  • focus on DHW first, lowest cost and best utilization of solar year round.

then you might think of solar with radiant. depending on your area and solar orientation though it may or may not make economic sense.

    Solar

Rob where would be a good place to learn about solar installations. I would like to explore installing a system on my new addition or on the existing roof, since it will be reshingled .

  • Dale had some strong recomendations, hopefully he'll see this thread... we usually work with a solar supplier/designer with our radiant tie-ins so I can't give you a lot of guideance there, sorry.

    solar radiant

Aspen Solar Inc. has been designing and installing award winning solar heated floors for 23 years now. Fortunately, I live in an area where the sunshine is abundant and radiant is popular. There are no books available,( that I know of), but there is a course that is taught here in the Aspen area by Solar Energy International in late May, (Aspen Solar helps instruct). It fills up fast as the demand for this stuff is growing. As far as solar into radiant, you can go direct, you can divert, or you can inject the solar heat gained into your radiant system. There are allot of variables that need to be determined first. I taught a full day class at the RPA Convention in Sacramento a couple of years ago. I believe that the RPA has audio discs available from my class. As well, I'd be glad to help you out if you email me.
