i took over an account 3 years ago. Apartment building with a (new 2-3years old )New yorker Micro3 boiler.I sooted up every January ( cleaned in the summer) since the install.
First year I had the account, told the landlord, I'd make sure everything was set right, wouldn't happen again.
1)New yorker micro 3
2)cold basement, 2 pipe system (didn't like that, haven't changed it yet)
3) oil tank is in unheated basement
4)afg with L head
5) 3 3/8 static plate
6) fired at .85x 60 B Pump at 140
7) ss1 powervent
Help, I've been through the burner with a fine tooth comb
tests 9.5co, 450 stack, o smoke, -04,-02 draft.
z dim is 1 3/8"
sooted again this morning at 2:00 am. could not get a good flame with the .85 nozzle this morning (tried 3 nozzles)
I put a .75 in and it came back with good tests.
I have been over this burner soo many times, ports on head are clean. Can it be cold oil with the 2 pipes???????
central maine is cold
???????????????????????????????????

Check the draft at
Check the draft adjustment on the power venter. It has a hood on the outside that needs to be adjusted. If that is set wrong, then you will not get the burner set correctly. I had the same situation in NH on a WM boiler. It would soot up, I went to Tjernlund website and downloaded an instruction manual. I set the PV and then the burner and all is well. I had a second situation where the flame was blowing off the head for the same reason, the PV draft hood was not set properly. I would bet on this one...Good Luck0 -
still stumped
adjusted the pv first year, stll a good draft.
The company that put it in did put in a bypass.
everything looks good except one thing, and I don't know what it is yet.I even had the oil company put in "HOT" oil treatment last year, still no avail.0 -
This is a hassel for you so,let me ask ...
would you mind putting a tigerloop combo on the supplyand converting it to one fill line with an OSV on the oil line? here is why. if the boiler is in a basement, and the pressure of the oil tank in the line is pushing on the oil pump it can put more oil into the equasion than you need...when the burner shuts off the oil pump especially without a solenoid valve and pre and post purge is going to put raw oil out the end of the gun,it may be only a few drops however over time it magnifies the problems...and the seal in a pump can go bad. the tiger loop helps one set of problems and the osv another, and the solenoid valve another./ once these problems are eliminated, then i'd re check the pump pressure....0 -
one more idea
you got make up air I assume?0
