What is the preferred method for raising a new boiler and is there an advantage to doing that? Any disadvantages?

the easiest way
is to stand the cinder blocks up across the entire base area with the holes up. and then fill the holes with cement...assuming you need to raise it alot..alittle we just make a 2x4 form and fill with cement..gwgillplumbingandheating.com

Sure does
make them easier to work on if you don't have to kneel down.
Poured houskeeping pads are nice. If you chose cinder blocks go with the solid ones. I've seen the hollow type collapse!
I've also used air handler stands, if the stand is rated for the boilers weight. They come in a wide variety of sizes, usually adjustable, and various heights. Check with an HVAC supplier.

Did you notice
that bringing up this thread triggers the ads for cement and cement blocks? At least it did on my PC.
For raising new boilers, first live in a nice neighborhood with good schools?0 -
Treat others..........as you would....
Don't let them stay up late at night with troubled codes.
Always look both ways before giving up heat.
Dress up warm or you'll catch an AFUE.
Say Tees and tanks.

What are you guys trying to do...
confuse the living crap out of the Googlebots?? Now nothing but PSA's pop up on this thread...
On our smaller condensing boilers, we use a unistrut rack that raises the boiler to a hieght of 30 inches. This leaves room for the 5 gallon neutralizer bucket, and keeps the technicians off their hands and knees. If it's a heavier boiler, we use cement and preformed, and in some cases pre poured pads.
If the boiler is a dry based boiler, you MUST follow the manufacturers recommendation as as it pertains to a fire proof base, or your insurance company may refuse your fire damage claim... There's a reason they design them the way they do. It's to disipate the intense downward energy and keep it from starting your floor on fire.

I tried standing in front of it and chanting Ohm Ohm a few times on a Sunday when no one was around...it sorta works,..a couple mins later my buddy who drug me away from my computer screen last week, stopped in"Hey. What are you doing?" "I'm Levitating the boiler" i tell him. "And it dont seem to be working real good..." "Well lets throw it in the back of the truck and shove it off onto the blocks" THAT WORKED! so it sorta works ...I am just not real great at it yet....0 -

I think Paul had the right answer.
Treat it well and let it learn to make its own decisions.( you know it's going to do it anyway.)Give it guidance, but don't MAKE it think the way that you do.... It may know or figure something you would have taken the long way around to learn. It can also teach you a new and different way to make YOU think, thereby raising you.
How's that one Weezbo ? Chris0 -
I havent seen a wrong answer in the bunch *~/:)
