How big a wrench is OK to remoev Air Vent?

I just finished replacing one air vent with Steamhead's recommended dual Gorton #1, which replaced a single Vent-Rite #35. In trying to remove the other larger vent, I can't budge it with a 12-inch pipe wrench. My guess is that this vent may be 70 years old, since the plaster ceiling is 1/2-inch away, so how else could it have been installed, than before the ceiling.

Can I use my 24-inch wrench, or am I asking for trouble. I have attached a photo of the situation so you can see what the piping is.

Thanks for any advice.

Steve

If I sawzall, then I need to put threads on the pipe. I don't have the machine to do that. Is that basically the only way to do this. If so, I need my plumber.

Are there affordable dies to cut threads on a 1-inch pipe; or do I need the electric threader?

    How about this

Why not breakaway the plaster in this area so the vent can come off and install a new vent without disturbing the existing piping.

The plaster is not the issue. I simply can't budge the vent with a 12-inch wrench. Toying with try the 24 incher.

Mission Accomplished. Used the 24-incher and everything came off perfectly. Project completed.
