Hot Water Rad out of Preasure

I live in a two story house that is broken up into two apartment, I am on the 2nd story. The heating is a hot water rad system. I find the apartment a little chilly and have also noticed that the rads are gurgling. So I have been bleeding the rads, mainly in the bathroom, for the past month. But in less than a week I would have to do it again. I have tried to bleed a couple of the other rads and there was a significant amount of air. I bled a rad last night and the system lost its preasure. I could take the valve off and there was no hissing. Did I screw up the system?
Is there a mechanism for the system to recover water? This is an old house and I doubt that the landlord has had the heating looked at in a while. I just want to understand the problem before I talk to him.
Thanks for any help.

You have to be sure the system is filled properly with water, it sounds like it may be low. It is hot water , yes. With a small square nut that is opened on a valve on top of the radiator, not a steam system with a large air vent. Check water boiler level first or you will always have air if it is to low0
