Steamhead (that darn FWL)

I am @ a complete loss!
We checked both main steam vents (Gordon #2) and they work.
We replaced the Hoffman 4A on the FWL because it was letting steam out.
And we skimmed the boiler again.
When we left the house the boiler had stopped short cycling. (It may of started again?) But the banging was still there. We where hoping maybe it was the FWL having to fill up properly.
The system was acting very strange though. As it was making steam, about 2 minutes in to it's cycle) the water level in the boiler would begin to drop. Once it fell nearley two inches, not surgeing though, that is when it would bang in the FWL.
It almost seams that the system is not returning water back to boiler fast enough?
Let me know if you might be available to come up and what I will owe you for the visit?

Either it's siphoning water out somehow
or as it drops it's uncovering a path for the steam to reach the water and cause banging. Call me this weekend- I expect I'll be snowed in with The Lovely Naoko.
