Noisy loop
Hey Paul
I am no expert but we do alot of oil. The full half full deal is a good question but the noise....maybe you are hearing the pump noise echoing through the tiger loop. Just a guess. You should go to oiltechtalk.com the boys there would hook you up. I am curious to the ideas.

tiger loops
that whole full and half full deal makes alot of people crazy, its a mystery. paul sr.0 -
A couple thoughts
If the tigerloop is below the top of the tank, I would put an OSV between the tigerloop and the filter. This should bring the level down. This may also cause the noise to go away. Oil line "hum" is caused by no air at all in the system and the lower level in the tigerloop may cure it. If not, a tee with a vertical pipe and cap at the pump inlet should do the trick. Hope this helps.

What is a tiger loop? I have heard the term, but have not seen it. I work in a area where there is not alot of oil customers.0 -
just maybe, it is pipe supply to return on the loop
they no likey that and it has happened....0 -
it is some what of an air eliminator with a feed and S/R for
burner of your choise, the tiger loop combo has an additional oil filter on it .once you install one of these on a fueloil appliance you are giving the oil pump and nozzel and oil tank a new lease on life...*~/:) and it aslo makes it handy when servicing oil fired equipment .0 -
tiger loop hum
Only time i heard one hum w3as when it wasw hard piped from the loops inlet and outlet to the pumps inlet outlet try stainless steel flexable lines that usually will stop any tramitted noise also chk your vacume on your inlet line peace clammyR.A. Calmbacher L.L.C. HVAC

Put a tiger in your tank.
That was an advert that the ESSO oil company used here in the UK some years ago.
Paul,
We have used tiger loops here in the UK for many years, on kero oil burners. But only use them with a single pipe from the tank(that are always sited externally)to the external wall of the house, then only when the tank is lower than the boiler(If the tank is elevated we take a single oil line into the boiler and rely on gravity). After the tiger loop and fire valve (sited outside the house) we take two pipes inside the home and connect to the burner, one flow and one return.
I have never known of a hum from a tiger loop, but we also always use flexi hoses to connect to the burner.
Sorry if that's no help, but I hope it may give you some insight.
Kind regards.

Having same problem
Well, my dad is. Tiger loop about a year old with flexible lines to the pump. Found this on oiltechtalk.com.
"Had same problem, tank one end of cellar, boiler at other end, overhead line. Ran fine for a year, then got noisy&full. Used O,S.V. valve at tiger loop.problem solved !! G-luck ED !"
What is a O.S.V valve?? Since the oil company has been out 3 times, I thought I would try to give them ideas on how to fix the problem.
Thanks,

Tigerloop
Bob, this is common with overhead lines. Either close the tank valve up some tll the noise stops, or the better thing would be the osv valve which stands for Oil Safety.Made by Suntec and Webster.A common item, easily found. I prefer the Suntec myself.0
