main vents.

Hello. After reading 'We've Got Steam Heat', which has made an amazing difference by the way, I noticed that the main vent location has been replaced with a cap. The system is a one pipe steam with two loops. One loop, the one with only 5 radiators, has the cap. I went to the plumbing supply to find that there are multiple vents to choose from with various PSIs. The other loop, supplying 9 radiators, is a Quickvent #4 on it.
I wanted to add that all the radiators on the loop that has no main vent heat very nice and evenly. The loop with the main vent is the one that gives me problems, This loop has radiators that are very far away from the boiler.
Any thoughts on the matter?? Thank you for your time.

To see what main vents you need
measure the length and diameter of each steam main. If the mains have old insulation, measure its outside diameter without disturbing it and subtract 2-1/4 inches to get the likely pipe size. Most old insulation is 1" thick and pipe walls are generally 1/8" thick.
Post the info here and we'll tell you what you need.
