I am a homeowner learning about this stuff. I installed a boiler and a radiant floor this summer. I have 24ft of BB in my upstairs and all is working fine. I recently got SlantFin's Heat Explorer2 software. I didnot use it for my original system, I know I am going to get yelled at but I installed my whole system with the help of a boiler installer and his gut feelings as to what and how much I needed for BB. Anyway, so I have part of the basement to put some BB in. It is 6'5 under a heated floor, concrete floor with no insulation, Concrete block walls with 1" of styrofoam on the inside. 480 sq foot. Now the Slant Fin HE2 says I have a 16,000 BTU of heat loss. Have I given enough info for a seasoned guess at to if this is close? It suggests that I need 30 foot of Slant Fin 15 My indoor temp is set at 70.
Thanks
Ed

The Sq footage of the space is 480'. The total exterior wall space is 403', 8" concrete block. Below grade of those walls is 279 sq ft. and above grade is 124 sq ft. I live in Midland, Mich.
How's that?

6FT.
Are you saying only needs 6 FT to accomodate heat loss or an additional 6 FT???0 -
baseboard
6 feet for a design temp of 0 degrees 7 feet for a design temp of -15 degrees the 1" foam on walls and heat loss is low below grade. You might want to put the baseboard on seperate zone in basement with the difference in baseboard 7 vs 16 wil buy you a zone valve!!!!!

Crown boiler
Crown Boiler has a heatloss program that you can run on line and it is very easy to use. I would say try that and see what you come up with. Another easy way to get an estimate is length x width x 35 and divide by 600. Good luck... Bob0 -
Thanks for the replies guys, that sure is alot less than the Slant Fin HE2 program!! I'll try the Crown Boiler site, funny that is the boiler and storage tank I have.
Thanks again
