    The books I'd write

have already been written. They're Dan's "The Lost Art of Steam Heating" and Patrick Linhardt's "Field Guide to Steam Heating". Dan and Pat handle the subject as well as I could hope to.

    More Books on Same Subject

The bookstores are filled with many books on the same subject - - that never stopped me from buying more than one book on the same subject.

If you're an expert, and, Steamhead, like Dan and Pat, you are, I would certainly pick up your book. Each of you has your own voice, even if it's the same subject.

Besides, when you write a book you can tell the story of the time when .... That's what I love about Dan H's books.
He tells of his real life jobs that were worth hearing about. I know you've got plenty.

In any case, whatever you do, you have my vote.

    More is good

Looking at you posts over the years I can think of a book, chapters like "Rounding up the usual suspects - the most common mistakes on steam installs", "Details and Do's and Don'ts of Drop Headers", Primarily Pressuretrols what you can get and what to use, What's wrong with this picture and how it was made right, Extra stuff we install, on top of what's in the picture from the mfg, Insides of the LWCO I've seen and how to pipe, wire (or find) them, How to figure out and make up make up water feeders, Skimming stories, Changing out burnt out sections, More on main vents, A book with the pictures of what you've posted and a story on each would be on my next Xmass list. I have the books you mentioned and they are indeed excellent, what they don't have is actual pictures of real installs before and after with all the details discussed. I have way too many books on the civil war but it's the individuals soldiers stories I value most.

The day we have to many books on anything

it will be a sad day for humanity, FACT!

To exchange ideas is valuable, to put them into words and share our knowledge is pricless.

My ole mentor on steam, Charlie Grace, was one of the best there ever was or ever will be, FACT!

He took his knowledge, his charisma and his wonderful stories and experiences with him, so sad!

Imagine over 70 years of experiences including going from engineer to steamfitter to engineer again [a story in itself] to one of our most beloved instructors in Beantown).

Write, write write steamhead! C'mon in Frank, the water's just fine! If you need some help call me, FACT!

    Warmest regards,
    George Lanthier
  • Frank, I agree with Dale

you could certainly write a book of practical experiences with steam systems from first hand knowledge. As one who has been in the basement and done the hands on stuff.

Sit down and begin to make a list of jobs you have fixed and revamped over the last few years. It would make for a great book. I for one could really enjoy a step by step section on how to install a drop header.

You have a lot to share and should not let the fact that others have writen on a subject cause you to turn away.

If there is anything I can do to help you just let me know.
