New boiler wont ignite after 10 hours

Installed a new Utica in a new radiant system. Many ideas from this wall. Thanks. I started it Saturday. Ran GREAT for about 10 hours. Went out to celebrate, and returned to a chilly house. Circs all running. Venter running. No burners. Tried many times, and no ignition; not even trying. I suspect Honeywell S8600 IID as I don't get 24V to pilot vaalve, but I do to both sides of the venter switch (which I bypassed also). I gather that these IIDs can be problematic. Should I just replace? Are there further tests? Could I have caused the failure? I have not bypassed the rollout switch. Should I? TIA Peter

  • Check for

24 volts at the ignition control module.

If no voltage, there's an interrupt on your safety string (rollout switch, spill switch, high limit, etc.).

If you show 24 volts at the ignition control module, it could be a bad module or igniter.

    boiler problem

do not bypass any safety switches. use a volt/ohm meter, go across your roll out switches, high limit switche etc. power on system, put one probe on one lead of the switch, the other on opposite side, meter set to 24volts. if you read 24volts at that switch,it is "open" that is where the problem is roll outs, limits, should be closed on start. if there is no voltage then that switch is closed move on check the others. you mentioned switch open on ventor motor should be closed while ventor is running. chimneys not blocked?

"tried many times"? What did you do? Turn power off and back on? If so, do you have 24V going to the control module?

I would suggest checking for 24v. on the S8600 at the #5 & #6 terminals marked 24v and 24v Gnd.

If you have voltage there, you should immediately get a spark at the pilot, and 24v at the gas valve across PV and MV/PV terminals.

If there is volatge to the S8600 and no spark or voltage to the gas valve, the S8600 is bad. If there is no voltage to the S8600, than I'd check the transformers located in the boiler for 24 v. One transformer is used to control the fan relay via a call for heat, the other transformer is for the ignition circuit.

    Utica factory support

I did infact contact you guys, and with your help, and that of this wall, got things sorted out. Thank you! A combination of things including rollout switch had triggered, LP pressures incorrectly set on initial install, and clumsy diagnostics (me).

It's all good....... No, it's all GREAT!

    Thanks to all.
