Chattering triple aquastat relay

Gentlemen, Last night I was on a call, and came across a chattering tripple aquastat. I checked for loose or broken wire connections in the low voltage circuit. The transformer is putting out 28 volts. Any other things I should check, or is the aquastat on it's way out? Any comments would be appreciated. p.s. the relay chatters intermittently, every other start or so.

Believe it or not I have found that when the manufacturers designed the relay, the cover when installed hits the armature of the relay. This caused a loud chattering noise.

    that bad boy....

is on its way out....sometimes they inexplicably will do that. Sooner or later it will not work and as Murphs law goes it will be at the worst possible time..........kpc

    Check your line voltage

Anything fluxuating below 110/112 is like a brownout to the 120 side of these things. Sometimes a quick run through the contacts with a fine sand cloth will clear the dust that has burned on them. We used to use a dollar bill.

One other thing to check , is the clapper still being held in place by the screw in the back? I've seen my share of them shaken loose after many years of slamming closed.(with both aquastats and switching relays). Chris

any taco powerheads here? they can almost open and the end switch bounces open /closed short cycling the burner or chattering the relay.
