is see that the boiler is clean. Dirty water can cause surging, which causes heavy breathing at the vents.

    Vents still whistle after replacing

I installed 2 new main vents on my mains, a Hoffman 75 and Dole 1. Long main is 20 feet, short main is 12 feet.

I replaced all of my old radiator Dole 1A vents with Hoffman 1A. Are these vents supposed to whistle? Not a high pitched whistle, but low sounding, short puffs of air. I believe when the radiator is fully heated, the vent makes a "ching" sound and the whistling is less frequent.

My pressuretrol cut-in is set to 1/2 and my differential is set to 2. The 1st floor vents are set to 4 out of 6, and the 2nd floor vents are wide open.

Is this whistling normal? My old Doles just "chinged", and did not really whistle.

My many thanks to everyone who has helped me with my steam problems. You've Got Steam was a great read, and the knowledgable users on this board have helped me greatly. I have learned much about the science of steam.

I believe the boiler is clean. No murky water in the glass tube. I drained some dirty water last month.

My mains are not insulated yet, so will see if that helps.

Just funny how trying to fix one thing make another problem appear.

    Thanx
