Comparing thermostatic radiator valves

Just read in "We Got Steam Heat" about TRVs, and I understand how they could help our overheated upstairs. However, now I'm not sure how to shop for them. I see at least three brands, Danfoss, Honeywell, and Macon, that seem to have the basics, but vary a lot in price and seem to perhaps have different features.
We have a one-pipe system. What should I be looking for? If I go on the lower price end (~$25), what might I be missing? With any of these, seem's I'll need to find straight-line air vents for the valves (all I've ever gotten is 90 degree vents). Are these easy to find? Thanks!

Any experience with different brands?

trv's
go with the danfoss, they have a vacuum breaker built in
2)you can purchess a strait air vent from your local plumbing supply house0 -
TRV's Cost
These sound like the solution to my problems. BUT- it sure is expensive. For the Danfoss it looks like close to $80 once you get the valve, operator, and air vent. Needing to install on 4 radiators, you're talking over $300. (I don't doubt that over 10 years it will be saved, and will sure be more comfortable) Am I missing something?0 -
You won't save much by using TRVs. The price sounds right, ballpark, and the TRVs are certainly worth that cost if you at all value comfort and the ability to individually control temperature. On the other hand, professionals probably get discounts from supply houses.0 -
Vacuum Breakers
The Macon One Pipe Steam Valves by the Tunstall Corporation(Part # OPSK) come with a Vacuum Breaker. Their website is www.maconcontrols.com.

I THINK the Macon OPSK has the vacuum breaker as the 4th component (besides the valve, vent, and operator). The Danfoss has an integral vacuum breaker. (Not saying one or other is better- I have no way of knowing)
The Honeywell-Braukmann does not have a vacuum breaker.
You guys sure provide me a lot of useful info.0 -
H/Well
I prefer the H/W product line but you need to find a small vacum breaker to install. Maybe Bill knows a little more about this product line. In Canada the H/Well units are about 125 each0
