Burnham Series 2PV Question

I will be installing a Burnham Series 2PV in a couple of weeks. The highest point that I will be able to come out of the basement will bring me only 4" above grade. My question is can I raise the vent terminus to the required hieght outside with 2 elbows, or is there some other way of doing this. I have installed this type boiler several times in the past but have never run into this problem before. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

This boiler has not been tested or certified for a vertical offset outside of the house so it can't be done. What can be done, with the approval of the local inspector, is to lower the ground in close proximity to the vent discharge or to install an area well.

Lowering the ground may be an option, if not how large would the area well have to be. Also does Burnham make a boiler that could be verticaly offset outside. Thanks for your reply Glenn.

The larger....the better as far as the area well. Deep enough to keep the discharge above accumulated snow or leaves and wide enough to accomodate the snow and leaves. The Revolution boiler is approved for vertical offset outside of the building. It may be offset up to 5 feet vertically. Hope thus helps.

    Series 2PV or Revolution

    Chris,

I would use the Revolution over the Series 2PV. The Revolution is able to vent with more options than the Series 2PV. The Revolution has a quieter, more powerful draft inducer. You will need the Indoor Air Kit to vent this boiler like the Series 2PV though. Please note the Figure 25: Optonal Indoor Air- Vent Terminal Installation diagram in the Installation Manual. (Glen has illustrated the vent termanation for Separate Horzontal sealed combustion.) The Revolution has a vent Tee with built in drain. This makes installing the vent quicker by not having to install a vent drain tee as with the Series 2 PV. The Revolution has at least a 5% higher AFUE than the Series 2 PV. This boiler will cost more but the added features are well worth the price. I have installed many Revolutions and believe they will out last most any other boiler.
