The Polaris has had a lot of issues...

... according to the many posts I have read about them here.

Besides the ignitor problem (which allegedly is largely solved by keeping the tank above 140°F), folks have also complained about the servicability issues with the Polaris. When everything is mounted to the underside of a water heater, that leaves you little to no room to work on the things.

Putting a Polaris on a stand is an obvious way to make the service folks happier, but not everyone has the headroom (or the foresight) to do so. Plus, the things are darn heavy once full, so you better get the stand right!

Anyway, overall, the Polaris is an interesting concept, though I would err on the side of caution and install a real boiler instead. The Δ$ is simply not worth it, IMHO.

    Polaris

Another reason they are not prolific.....most plumbing codes do not allow use of the same water to do both space heating and domestic hot water.....you must separate them and that make the Polaris illegal (by code standards) for what they were built for.
