Join the ranks Ted
EVERYBODY's got an incriminating photo of me .
I've come to belive I will NOT be running for office.
Great to meet You Ted.
The GB142 is a Cool heating applaince ( note I did not say boiler ). Thses units will be the star of some Milne Photos quite soon. What a great piece of equipment.
How about a little debate on the following statements made at Buderus yesterday ...
- Aluminum blocks absorb heat better than stainless steel.
- Stainless Steel has an uneven expansion rate.
- 70% of all condensing boilers in sold Europe are aluminum.
- The corrosion rate of Aluminum is Very Low.
- The three guys in this photo are Moe, Larry and
Curly.

Scott and Ted
HEY, thanks for saying hi to me! You guys just walked right by me and didn't say a word (I was the one holding the door open when you went into our boiler room just after 5pm.)
Thanks for pictures and attending our class. We look forward to the GB being released and obtaining feed back from you guys. This product has been in use for 20 years in some European countries. Thanks again for visiting!0 -
Hey Joe
Thanks fro saying Hi as we walked by
Sorry we did'nt get a chance to talk. I did ask Mark where you were but at that point you had gone home for the day.

The aluminum learning curve
These aluminum boilers have a learning curve. Not just the electronics, but how they are commissioned and serviced.
1) If glycol is used, it is required that the glycol be for a boiler with aluminum in it. The Noble Company has such a product. Non-aluminum rated glycol can be damaging to the boiler. It could actually eat it up with corrosion in a very short time.
2) System cleaners and treatments also have to be friendly to aluminum. Again, the wrong product could damage the boiler.
3) I am curious if these issues were mentioned during your tour or in their literature.
Any questions, call me at 800-543-5975 or send me an e-mail.0 -
YES
George , everything that you mentioned was addressed.

Treatment of water in GB boiler
I am confused on this issue. Has the position of Buderus changed since before Christmas. Dr. Lou advised us that no Glycol or inhibitor was to be allowed to be added to a GB Series boiler system. I am still waiting word on this. I know that Weil McLain have approved Propylene Unihibited glycol with Fernox Copal inhibitor addditive in their aluminium block "Ultra" boiler. Did this statement from Buderus come in writing or verbal?0 -
Joe,
I joined the warehouse tour a bit late, but was with the offenders when they asked to meet you in the office as I wanted to say Hi also.
I'm sure I'll be up there at least one more time this spring/fall (or maybe for a parts emergency....it's only 1 hr. 15 min. away WITHOUT FOG!!!) Chris0 -
Where's the snorkel?
I see the intake snorkel on one pic but not the other. Am I looking at two different models?
Scotty, who's the chick and does your wife know?0 -
They said glycol for aluminum and or fernox.

Very observant Steve !
The last picture was a "cutaway" model in the breakroom. The snorkel/silencer on the U.S. models is kind of buried in the rear of the unit. The cutaway is a European version, it has a double walled flue/intake pipe, like the other big German company. The U.S. version has seperate intake and exhaust pipes on the top.
Reminds me of my days riding dirt bikes. The intake snorkle looks like an expansion chamber from an old 2 stroke Honda CR 250 or for you flatlander/ lake riders....an old Ski-Doo muffler. It works in the exactly the opposite way of an engine exhaust. Giving the intake air some room to relax on it's way TO the heater makes the intake quieter. In the case of the 2 stroke engines, it gave the exhaust some place to expand but also kept some back pressure on the engine to make sure the flow provided optimum power.
Pretty impressive . Chris0 -
That Chick
is the famous Legless Lisa. I may be taking her to Wetstock IV
I believe that Dr Lou's comment were correct, No Anitfreeze. The follow up would be "Unless it is designed for use in Aluminum blocks".

I will check with Dr. Lou on Monday and let you know.
Thanks0 -
The next question is, are the Rhomar products ok to use?

We are aluminum safe and compatible with aluminum rated
glycol. We are being used with the Ultra WM and I know of no reason that we would have a problem with another aluminum boiler and any other metals in the system.
It will be interesting to hear what they say.

as of now.....
We recommend Fernox for our Gb142. I suspect any antifreeze designed for aluminum boilers would work ok. We want to see test results for products before recommending them.0 -
Buderus New Wall Hung Boiler
Attn: Joe & Dave @ Buderus.
Have we got a firm answer about the glycol and allowed inhibitor for the GB Series wall hung boiler yet. Still waiting written confirmation from my local Buderus agent before we do anything with this product. Right now I have seen only partial verbal allowances from Buderus. Can either one of you provide clarity on this. Thanks.
Waiting in Calgary0
