Wood pellet stoves

Hey all. I am considering installing a wood pellet stove in my finished basement. I understand about making a platform for it to sit on (ceramic tile or slate) but here is a stupid question. If I am going to install the flue thru the interior wall (drywall) and the exterior wall (concrete), what factors to I have to take into consideration as to not causing a fire? My concern is the heat of the flue coming in contact with the drywall. Is there something special that I have to build around the flue so it does not come in contact with the drywall? Sorry for the stupid question, but I do not know. Thanks in advance for your responses.

    Pellet Stove

What you need is a wall thimble. Attached a pic and a link from one place you can get them.

    Mfg instructions

The stove should come with install instructions for a legal and safe initial install. There is a wide variance in clearance to combustibles with wood equipment. I would also contact your insurance company, most large ones have booklets concerning wood heat. In my state over 80% of the house fires come from the less than 20% of the houses that heat with wood.

    It seems like

I looked into those pellet stoves at one time but thought that it would be really expensive to buy the pellets. Just a thought. You could always go outside with a wood burner ya know.

Thanks for the input guys. The thimble is great, I did not know about that. I am sure when I do buy one they would have told me about it. The reasoning behind the wood stove is the price of natural gas. My neighbors had a wood pellet stove installed and it cost them only 25% of what it cost them the years before. He bought a skid of pellets and they are so safe today that is why I am looking into them. Again, thanks for your input.

    Pellet Stove

I have a pellet stove- i pretty much heat my whole 1800 sq.ft. house with it. I have a woodstove in the finished basement that i use intermittently. I use approx. 35-45 bags a month. I pay $160 for 50 bags (a ton). I like it- it's not as messy as firewood and i put one bag in a day (approx) and clean it once a week. I also have huge cathedral ceilings- I think if I had standard ceilings I melt the place!!!
