Buderus and Riello -- Noisy Combo

Hello, I recently had installed a Buderus G215 with Riello F5 burner. It vents into my chimney, which also has a fireplace in the living room. When the burner is on, it sounds like train running through my living room; and its also quite noisy from other parts of the house. This doesnt seem normal, as I have been told that Riello burners are remarkably quiet. Has anybody else experienced this? I have heard some random chatter suggesting that Riello/Buderus combo can be noisy in some applications. My installer sort of implied that he had other customers with similar complaints, but did not know how to fix it. What can I do about it? Thanks.

are you firing it at the middle of the burners abilities or on

the high end? the nozzel is a .85 1? to me they are quiet and happy in the mid firing range..they run a coolstack do you have a 1.2X60 H (a blue cover riello?)

    Blue Riello

Yes, the Riello has a blue cover. To be honest with you, I wish I were more tuned into the technical settings but I dont know much about it. Where can I find out what nozzle I have on the burner? Thanks.

    noise...

I have dealt with this alot and have found that if the chimney is a dual flue with a rain cap the sound will reflect down into the fireplace flue... make sure your damper in the fire place is closed when not in use it will help a little... as far as the boiler burner combo you have being quite, I think not!!! they are all somewhat loud and have that distinctive riello rocket sound... I actually find the sound quite pleasureable and can tell if the setup is right by the sound alone. it is quite distinctive when running good... I work at one very wealthy neighborhood that is almost entirely riello's and on a cold day it is pretty cool to listen to a whole bunch running at once...

look on the front top right hand corner.

it probably says, all the factory settings,G215-4 pump 150 psi nozzel 1.20X60 W air setting 4.75 ...4 turbo like that and then some this is the superceeded riello settings...here is where ...i think it might be better to actually er..how do i say this with out being guilty of mis informing you....oh i know, take a look at the riello book for that firing rate...seems a little different? Then you need to see the THIS IS ONLY A STARTING POINT....and it all becomes clear *~/:)

    .

i have a g115/34 with the Reillo --its noisier than the old weil mclain pin boiler i had --to me its the sound of savings--i also find it comforting on cold nights to hear it running --Reillo does have a flue muffler---i don't know how well they work though

something that occurs to me is the oil you have there

and the oil we have here might have different BTU's per gallon. i know this sounds like nonsence on first take, however lets just say for a momment theoil you were using was 140000 BTU's a gallon...ok guess what? that particular nozzel etc would likely be producing with that pump pressure a considerably higher amount say than oil rated at 119000btu's per hour.how much? maybe enough to be overfiring it...210000or178500thats a coupla few thousand btus hey?

    OEM Settings

OK, it says that the Buderus factory settings that supercede Riello manual are: Pump Pressure 150, Air 4.75, Nozzle 1.2 x 60, Head Set 4.00.

I have noticed that it sucks a lot of fuel, but I always figured its due to my extensive heat loss (1921 house no insulation in the walls) and huge water mass (converted steam system).

    Noise

The noise you discribe is thought to be caused by sound waves, generated by the burner, that travel through the boiler and when entering the chimney create a jet like sound. To date we have seen this with a couple of different burners (mostly Riello) and various types of chimneys. Buderus offers a flue silencer that mounts in the flue pipe, before the barometric damper, which helps break up the sound waves. The flue silencer has provide excellent results.

I caution down-firing the boiler. The current burner specifications, provide by Riello, result in a firing rate of 1.46 Gph. The boiler is design to be fired at 1.40Gph. Because of the design of Buderus boilers, down-firing can cause issues such as uneven heating, thermal stress, combustion issues. If there are any questions, please contact us at 1-800-283-3787.

    Flue Silencer

Joe, the flue silencer sounds like a good solution; my installer did not seem to be aware of it; can you refer me to a part number so I can ask my installer about it? Is this an expensive item? Thanks.
