    Where in Alaska?

Wees' Where are you in the great north? I want to stay a heck of a long way from there until it gets a heck of a lot warmer. How in blazes do you survive those temperature extremes? You have to be a Saint to go out and service systems in that weather. Sounds like everything has to be anti-freezed to the max just to operate.

    you aren't kidding

EEEK!!! 44 degrees below zero in North Pole, AK!!! At least there's no wind. -44 dewpoint and fog yet!

We either matched or beat the record high today--I saw 69 degrees but official is probably a degree or two lower.

Honestly , the neighbours in Siberia ,..There are stories ...

that i have heard from the eskimoes and i am inclined to belive them.....there seems to be areas on our planet that have some sort of collecting effect on the cold...maybe there are large metal deposits or something under the ground that hoovers the heat out of anything near by...i really have never done any experiment to determine what the reason is for the phenomena.all i know is, it is for real and is for sure Cold .this morning one of the guys who works with me took the flat off his car and started walkin..two hours later he was back and had the vehicle running....my vehicles are froze i can make them go.if i dont have to tho , I wont.it is a process in itself.there are people who ,having never experienced this stuff take off in the vehicle oblivious to just how treacherous this cold can burn them.

Grumy , i live near a river in the flats,i live in a hollow

my home is built about 18" below grade of the road and is slab on grade in respect to the ground around it ,and three feet above ground water..*~/:).. if i tell some one This Works when it comes to heating i usually dont get any interjections from the peanut gallery. :) it is indeed humorus to some of the outsiders to hear me say it is warmer in the hills, they think i am nutzoid...untill the remainder of the class starts in with well just how much money are you willing to redistribute into the weezbos pocket if hes right :) and all the testamonials of the guys who live on various hills begin to illuminate my word.:)

    frosty

Yup someplaces are colder than others , even in really close regions. Why?? couldn't tell you. I left pittsburg NH one morning on the snowmobile at a chilly -5. Came over the mountain headed SOUTH into Diamond pond . I took in a deep breath with my shield up and i think my tounge went numb. theremometer said it had dropped to -21 full sun not a cloud in the sky. back up the mountain over Dixsville peak and it was back up to about 0.

ever hear about **** Prennoeke? He built himself a cabin at Twin Lakes, up there in Alaska. Was going to see if he could make it through one winter by his lonesome. ended staying for thirty of them. did EVERYTHING by hand 'ceptin for hunting. Find the book, "One Man's Wilderness". Or maybe your local PBS station has been playing the video.

    165* difference eh?

Weezbo, you need to start your own "300 club" up there. They have one on the South Pole. When it gets down to -100F, they crank the sauna up to 200 and get totally toasty and then they sprint out in the cold to the pole and back. I do believe they are allowed to wear slippers so that their feet don't stick to the snow and ice and a breathing mask so their lungs down't freeze internally but everything else gets to experience a near instant 300* drop and hopefully fairly quickly after a 300* rise. Those scientists must get pretty bored to start up clubs like that... L

Don't worry about the car battery...

at about -40, gasoline stops giving off enough vapor to burn!

    Dont worry about that :)

the transsmissions that are controlled by hydraulic clutches wont shift in 65 70 below...unless you have a garage or you know a trick or two you might not even get out of the drive way.the tyres grow square on one side as the air pressure in the tyre "consolidates",the steering wheel on cars can break trying to make the turn after a twelve mile freeway run..oh and it gets better:))

    cold?

Winter is finally here. Hope it stays awhile $$$$. A balmy -1 here in Anchor town. God I miss 30 below. (comfy weather). Livin Alaska can certianly be an adventure. I'll never forget the winter of 88-89. We had a cold snap, -30 in Anchorage, -80 in Fairbanks. A CNN reporter was interviewing a Fairbanksian about the weather. Bundled up in so many clothes and a hooded fur lined Parka, he asked the Fairbanksian "What is it like at 80 below?". The Fairbanksian rubbed his icicles hanging from his chin and slowly responded "Well, its kinda like 30 below . . . . only colder"

    Weezbo, was that you???

Have a great day everyone. Only 346 shopping days till Christmas.
