Banging steam heating pipes

Bob L

I have a steam radiator system heated with oil, the furnace is 4 years old and maintenanced by the oil co. yearly. however, I have a banging in the whole system when the heat comes on as far as I can tell the return pipes in the basement are pitched back towards the furnace. The furnace is in the middle of the basement and it sounds like I have banging on both sides of the house. How can I eliminate this banging problem?

Thanks

Bob L

    contact your oil co

Have you contacted your oil co just because you get and have a yearly burner contract doesn,t mean the mech. is staying long enough for the complaint you suggest arrives .Sounds like you have counter flow system possilble some one has set your pressuretrol to high or some of your mains or rads have lost some pitch over the years by the way are your mains insulated or bare metal .PS have you called and complained to your oil co ? good luck and peace clammy
