Dual Oil Filter

What would you recommend for the best oil treatment filter system?
Two garbers in series, or maybe start with an fb4 then to empty fb4, then finally to a garber.I would like to have a standard installation practice company wide.
Thanks for any input.

    dual filtration

I like an empty b4 canaster then a garber fiter b4 acts as a catch basin for the dirt

I usually put two Garbers, one large, followed by three small filters on each install I do.

not sure what you mean two garber filters then 3 more filters?Wow that a lot of filters isn't it.What about starting witha FB4 witha 60 micron filter then an empty fb4 then to two garbers in series is this to crazy?

Empty B4 at the tank first

then whatever! The idea of the empty FIRST is to give the heavy stuff a place to go; 'sludge pot'. Anything beyond three in my opinion starts an endless 'what if' chain.

    Oventrop :~/

George I checked out one of your old threads and came up with your suggestion of using Oventrop filters, where do you get these?
    What is the benefit? Thanks
so far I have: 1-(empty fb4)-2(garber)-oil line-3(2nd garber) then oil pump.
  • That's some

    filters

i like b4 WITH pleated foam filter , then a garber and then the Viessmann set up which is two pipe to the filter. This is the Oventrop set up and can be had with a tigerloop on top.My house I change b4 every year garber every other.third year on viessman filter and nozzel.

You bet my tuneups cost allot because then I jack up the price of the filters, two Garber filters 25 bucks each, etc etc so customers pay almost 60 bucks just in filters that only cost me 15 bucks.... America is a great country....

    Dual

Dual series of the same filter is useless. If it could pass the first element it will pass the second element. You want to first "install at the tank" a general type filter to pick up the majority of the dirt and down stream install a miro filter . I like to install a set of vacuum gauges on the micro. If a difference ......change the micro.

Same filters in parallel make a larger filter .....

Filtration is more important now a days with more contractors taking heat loss calculations. Using alot more .60 - .65 gph nozzles today . Years ago a buck ten was considered............well small.

    2 filter

I DONT THINK A FILTER ON EACH TANK IS THE WRIGHT WAY.THIS CAUSES TANKS NOT TO MAINTAIN LEVEL OIL AND COULD CAUSE 1 TANK TO GO EMPTY

how about just one filter sized for the oil useage. Most would say a garber is oversized for the res. boilers (I disagree). I have worked on units that use the fuel unit to clean the oil and most do not have problems and are clean at the end of the year. I have thought about this myself and I ask myself "what am I trying to filter anyway?" The oil should be mostly clean and the filter is just to stop any small stuff.....too many filters could cause more restriction anyway........ my two cents.

    Right

With dual tanks the filter is placed after the tee.
  • I think 2 same filters do work together

I have 2 General big sized filters right near the burner . The first one always has more crud built up in it than the 2nd one . Although , neither one catches all the fine stuff that'll plug a nozzle .

I guess more oil will stay warm with the 2 big filters sitting near the boiler . Better for combustion . I gotta throw in a Tigerloop sometime - why pump all that extra oil through the filters when you don't have to ?
