Our unit at the store is giving us fits. It will run fine for an hour or two then drop out. We turn the power off for 10 seconds then start it and it will run. Unit is approximately 20 years old with a Honeywell spark ignition. This unit heats a glycol mixture and is completely self contained.

    Amana HTM

    Herb,

We sold the Amana HTM's and the "split" versions many years ago. They were fine when they worked, but numerous service problems made them a loser.

To my knowledge, Amana went away from them 15 years or so ago. They had so much trouble with the technology that it just couldn't do the job and be economical for the customer.

You have a dinosaur that has given you 20 years of service. Step up and get the newer technology. It would cost a fortune to maybe make that one work, and you still have a 20 year old unit.

    I can't believe.............

That it still runs at all. Most died piece by piece before the age of 10.

Be thankful it lasted this long, pitch it and get a new furnace. It's way past time for that Amana to croak.

Be aware that if you want a piece of heating equipment to last for 40 years, a boiler is the only thing that will do it anymore. New furnaces are REALLY light gauge material anymore. Most last for 10-15 if installed properly, less if they aren't.
