Solar heat

My friend has a 75g electric water heater that feeds the house in the winter. Than it has a little tank that runs off of the water heater with two circulators that work a solar panel on the roof wich I am guessing runs only in the summer? Does anybody know about this type of system, and do they know where I could learn more about solar heating. Thanks MT

    solar

Sounds Like you have a drain back system. Small tank holds a reservoir of water until collectors are warm enough to heat water tank then both pumps run one through the collectors the other through a HX in the small tank. Use demineralized water for the collector side.

    question

it has a little tank that runs off of the water heater with two circulators

Is this a storage tank or a heat exchanger? Is there a nameplate on it with the manufacturer and part #?

    Some pictures would help, also..
