Problems with radiators

My radiators are not hot enough. I have replaced my windows and my roof this summer. I had a contractor check the rads last summer (they didn't work last year either) and he said they were fine - not sure what he did. However, only one rad (the most old-fashioned one) produces significant heat. I have bled them. If I call back an expert, is there something specific I should be asking him to check? Would draining and refilling the system be of any use?

    call in the expert

You said it right! Call in the expert. Not knowing alot about the basics of your system there could be several possibilites to yoru problem. Something simple as bleeding the lines or other things such as circulation pumps or proper pipe sizing. If it was left working last year, hopefully its a minor repair problem. Let the expert check all things out and make that determination. Best of luck to you.

    So, hot water

Since you say bled, you have a hot water system? And it sounds like you have cast iron radiators, do you have a pump? If so what is the pressure in your boiler? Funny but about 1/2 have of the "some rads not hot enough" Homeowner calls I look at don't have enough water pressure, so usually the bottom rads are OK but the top too cool. So,check your pressure,if you have a pump make sure it's pumping. Also if you have hot water you should have a temperature gauge, what does it read? How how it your how water. All this helps understand what you have and asking questions here will make you a more informed customer.
