Here it is my first munchkin install with a buderus tank .The unit is a t80 with the vision one reset .The original system was steam 1 pipe but with a second floor addation and a garage and the wanting to remove the old chimmey the munchkin was the answer i was looking for i guttet all the steam pipe and rads out .I did a heat lose sizing with slant fin high output 80 series at a 160 design tempso she really runs with the reset at about 140 so far ,i did a radaint for the garage using heatway tubing would have used pex but the supplier wasn't to helpful and wouldn't run a heat lose just kinda of winged it so i went with the heatway stuff supplier was alot better and ran the heat lose for me with a print out the outside peremeter was insulate with blue board but below the slab is astro foil the ho did not to go with blue board i did warn him but it seems to be working excellent but i'll have to see other wise she's running great even though the home is about 1000 or more sq.ft larger there gas bills have been less then with the home closed up and the steamer running go figure but there's been insulation and new double pain windows and doors added thanks for any comments peace clammy

But shouldn't the stand have been gray and the wall blue to match each item??? Just picking clammy. Per the norm nice install.0 -
takes lots of right effort to produce that..........

at counter height!
Nice to see some one else likes not haveing to always pray
to their new installs. We have several Munch's on NICE steel stands (see www. boilerstands.com) easy installs, easy future service and a number of different ways to utilise the space under them. Homeowners have always been impressed. Also good to see someone else that uses gravity with the expansion tank physics rather than against it. Amazing what the 21st century brings to old buildings if they let us. Craftsman practising their CRAFT as an art form. Nice Job.
Thanks

Beautiful work Clammy
Once again , you outdo yourself . Can you tell me where you buy the mounting parts to attach the piping to the blue board ? I'm gonna start an aluminum diamond plate panel for under my stairs and need a way to attach it . And yours looks awesome . Great looking install Clammy .0 -
Thanks
Thanks to all .To my buddy and true under the gun craftmans ron jr on this board i used 3/8 carrage bolts through the back of a 2 x 4 frame to support the plywood and the versa bar i know a bit anal but the 2 x 4 are drilled and have 1 /2 coundit cut as a spacer to the wedge anchors that hold it all to the block seems like alot but after you do it a couple of dozen times it's a piece of cake and holds like a rock .This whole job was for a buddy so for him it was no holds bar on quality he truely loves it may not understand it but he loves it all the same .There was alot of work to this job like re does on all the gas lines and water line . thanks again for all the kind words it's you guys that drive me to make them all workable serviceable and sweet thanks again and peace in the coming year clammyR.A. Looks Great!
Painting the backer-board before mounting anything to it is a nice touch. However, for me, it is far better to see a beautifully-executed set of loops that mimic HTP's recommendations to a "T" and then some.
Little details like the increasing pipe diameter as you combine the three returns shows a level of attention to detail that I like a lot. The shut-off valves above and below the circulators are another nod to the person that shows up at 2AM to fix a "no heat issue" due to a bad circulator. Your foresight will save time and aggrevation.
I also like the stand for the Munchkin. A great way to make servicing the thing a bit easier. Plus, the full-port ball-valves, the temp/pressure sensors, the straightness of it all, I could on. BTW, did you field assemble the primary loop or was it done at the shop and hooked up on site? I'd like to think that pre-assembling a lot of this stuff would save time and aggravation later!
If there are two details I wonder about, it's the location of the expansion tank and the pumps behind the boiler. The pictures do not suggest that there is a lot of room back there, but pictures can be deceiving.
I also like the open-air loo in the foreground. :-)0 -
Outstanding work, Clammy

Where can you buy a double stand for a Munchkin boiler. I want to stack them.0 -
Yes. Where did the stand come from?
My suppliers say one is not available from either Peerless or HTP.
I hate putting "Pins" and Munchies on blocks.
BTW, AWESOME install, Clammy.0 -
What can ya say but...........
NICE install Clammy! The pic shows a little dark on my 'puter but it looks like I'm seeing ProPress fittings and a whole bunch of correct pipework. Again, great job!0 -
Clammy Nice Job
I really like the use of the Watts purge/iso valve for the PONPC. Good idea. I will incorporate that into my next install. Any reason why you did not use a T80 and hang it on the wall next to the pump panel? It eliminates the stand and keeps your floor space open. Carpe Hydronicum

Beautilful work Clammy
You show how much you care when you put so much into the install. How is the expansion tank attached and supported. Is it just the all thread and clamp? I've been using strut and long duct clamps around the belly of the tank, Always considering other ways for myself. WW

Clammy, as always great job! So much attention to detail! I really like the 4x2 j boxes for the zone valves thats a nice touch! Question for you- How come the valve that spererates your supplys and returns on our primary loop is shut off? And, how come your supply/return circuits are so far apart? I've never done a munchkin so maybe this is standard procedure.0 -
Thanks Ray
Thanks foor the kind words ,the reason for the 2 shut off on that primary loop was one for isolating the system while this job was going on i had to install temperary heat for the 1 ,second and basement so i threw those in to isolate stuff without disturbing the system and to keep the domestic hot water production plus this was going to primary loop with a pump and a motorized 3 way valve for the garage raidant but the HO didn't want to spend more and in hindsight i should have done it because he later had me add 2 more radint zones for the basement and a staple up for his kitchen .The reason the valve on the right of the photo is closed because there is no pump for that loop and after running her for a bit i found that i had got a much better (cooler return temp) that way and since she mostly cruises around at about 120 to 140 that cool return temp made her condensate quite well .In hind sight i hate to say never do work for friends or on a barter system either you don't get paid and or they never finish there side of the deal ,so as it stands when this unit needs service it won't be me and i ain't tellin .Crashed and burned .Peace and good luck clammyR.A.
