Piping more than 1 aquabooster on a single coil

Chrispy Chicken asked me this question . He installed a 30 gallon aquabooster to an existing Weil Gold oil boiler with a coil for hot water . The boiler is a few years old and the coil seems to be producing the hot water well . The homeowner recently made the basement into an apartment , and they run out of hot water in the mornings with the increased load .

Chris wants to try to add another aquabooster to the system - another 30 gallon ,or maybe a 50 . The question is how to pipe in the extra tank . Can one bronze circulator be used for both tanks ? Should he pipe the tanks in parallel , series ? They're standard electric tanks , 1 drain port , hot , cold , and relief ports on top .

Thanks for any help in advance .

    Sister

Hi Ron I would sister in a second tank. Attach the bottom drains together then connect the the top hot to hot and cold to cold on the top . By gravity it will charge the second tank . A pump can be added for a faster mix.

Tip....... Use equal amount off piping or reverse return for equal draw.....

2nd way ......faster recovery would be using a 3/4 " coil

P.S. Say hello to Chris for me
  • There's a pump on the tank now

What about pumping through the coil , pipe the outlet of the coil to the inlet of the 1st tank , outlet of the 1st tank to the inlet of the 2nd , oultet of the 2nd to the hot of the sinks ? You think there'd be a big pressure drop ? And controlling the one pump for both tanks might be a challenge .

I don't think he's looking for a quick recovery with this setup , he just wants to get the family through the morning demand with more storage .

Thanks Ed . Do you know Taz personally ? I'll say hi to him from you .
