BOILER NOISE

I HAVE A 65K BTU TELEDYNE BOILER. TWO ZONE SYSTEM WITH FLOOR HEAT UTILIZING THREE WAY MIXING VALVES AND TWO PUMPS(PUMPING AWAY). ONE ZONE WATER TEMP AT 120 DEG F AND OTHER ZONE WATER TEMP AT 140 DEG F. THE BOILER AQUASTAT IS SET AT 180 DEG F. WHEN THE BOILER WATER TEMP APPROACHES MAX THE BOILER SOUNDS LIKE IT IS STEAMING. I CHANGED THE AQUASTAT TO 160 DEG F AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXITS. THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE KNOCKING ON A DOOR VERY LOUDLY. THE INPUT AND OUTPUT CONNECTIONS TO THE BOILER ARE BOTH AT THE TOP. SHOULD THERE BE A DROP TUBE ON THE LOW TEMP CONNECTION. ALSO THERE IS NO PRIMARY/SECONDARY PUMPING. WHAT IS CAUSING MY NOISE AND HOW CAN I CORRECT IT?

    verify temps

first and basic: have you checked the pipelines for the actual temperatures with a heat gauge. Be sure you have the appropriate temperatures you are SET at and knowing your Acustat is working properly and the mixing valves are working properly. Be aware of recommended temperature differences for mixing and max boiler temp. Then proceed.

I had the same thing happen the other day on the same boiler. Make sure the piping is purged of air, that the pumps are working and the 3 way valves are piped correctly.
Also, check your system pressure. The problem I had was a bad pump AND low system pressure due to a bad pressure reducing valve.

    Boiler overheating

Sounds like it could be boiler overheating. The exhanger is getting too hot , expanding and making banging noises. Check for proper circulation. Is pump correct size? Good luck Jeffrey
