Hardwood floor with radiant

PG

Looking to install hardwood over gyp pour radiant (in an addition). Are any particular woods better then others? I presently have red oak in existing house. Was hoping to match. Anyone have refferals for installers in the metro Detroit area? I'd like to find someone with infloor experience. I don't really want to add another sub floor over the pour to. Thank You
PS Doing some ceramic tile.......any pointers there? <A HREF="http://www.heatinghelp.com/getListed.cfm?id=325&Step=30">To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional"</A>

    How??

How are you going to anchor the hardwood to the gyp? Is the gyp going over an existing subfloor? Unless the gyp is already done, you may have an application that would be better suited to something like a Climate Panel type install.

As far as your choice of wood, nearly all varieties will work well if installed correctly and the floor temp is controlled properly. (Think constant circulation with variable water temp here) I've found that narrower wood is always more stabile than wide plank type products. This is true of all wood floors, not just radiantly heated ones.

If you go with gyp, I always recommend/insist that the gyp be heated for a minimum of 2 weeks before installing the wood. This allows it to cure and get rid of the copious amounts of moisture contained in the gyp. After that your wood should be brought in the house, unpacked and spread out to allow it to acclimate itself to your house. Now you are ready to nail it down.

Make sure you have a vapor barrier and good insulation under the floor.

I just did a job in Haverhill, MA where the GC and I discussed this and he laid down 1-1/2x3 sleepers every 8" on center with alternating open ends which made my install very easy and gave flooring co plenty to nail to without worrying about my tubing. The gyp pour came flush with the sleepers and everything worked out great.
