wow! no dont doit....
it is not that iron cannot be welded it is this, unless you have a certain acrediation to remanufacture boilers and this that an the other it may very well be illeagle to do so. should anything go kaputz then you would be held criminaly negligent.........and i hate to say it buh thank your lucky stars you have asked .........by passes definitely help ,control stradgis that slow or stop flow and or increase or main tain temp the boiler sees as a constant is usually specified in the manufactures lit...i have no idea about the size of the boiler you are refering to, however let me mention one more very signifigant aspect to the reason i mentioned not firin up the torch or breaking out the jumper cables to weld the boiler....more deaths are associated with boiler operators than any other type of workman...lets say that if you have a leaking section you could repair it when you had time however , this is winter careful consideration has to go into your next course of action...so,if you are refering to something with many sections buying a section and pieces r and r the parts is a possibility...if it is under say 240,000btu,s then taking it out altogether might be a better plan...0 -

Not a good idea
First off I would go with Weezbo on this. It is probably not a good idea... If the weld fails at the wrong time, it has the potential to be very serious. (is this your boiler or for a customer?) But to answer your question, Cast Iron is very difficult to weld, even for experienced welders. You would also need one hell of a welder. All but the best of arc welders won't cut it. Best choice is a tig welder, and again, not the weekend warrior version...0 -
