Tsunami

Image below is the best reason I've seen to:

1) Be thankful.

2) Give whatever you can to help.

Warning: Photo graphically depicts both physical and human devastation.

    The wave...

My wife forwarded me this photo...I can't authenticate it, but I also can't imagine someone doctoring up a photo for no particular reason. What do you think?

EDIT: I'm yanking the photo. It can't be real. Sorry for the bother and sorry if it offended anyone. It just looks to big to be real.

    Looks Doctored

Report I heard were of 30 foot high waves. That wave in the back looks almost as high as that 12 story office building which would make it 100 ft high. Hard to know what the reality is. From the reports I heard the Tsunami travels under the surface as a ball of energy and then when it reaches the slope rising toward the shore it literally climbs up the slope and out of the water so there is no warning. Frightening picture of the debris and people among it in previous post. WW

Likely the passing of an imaginative image created before the fact...

I examined that original image closely. Cannot imagine it being faked in any way. It's the devastation I'd heard about but for some reason wasn't shown. Realize it's gruesome, but it really affected me...

No matter where such a thing happened–no matter how rich or how poor the area nor whatever their faith, it compelled me to make some attempt to help. We do inhabit the same world and we all share the human condition.

I'm as skeptical of large, organized charities as I was of the "Oil For Food" program but surely such a disaster illuminates even the dark hearts...

    why doctor such suffering?

I believe, but cannot prove, the 2nd shot is heavily PhotoShopped. The 1st looks genuine. All for the reasons stated elsewhere. Why magnify the suffering of so many? What perverse pleasure can one seek?

I work for a small, local, secular charity now. I once worked for my (Roman Catholic) parish & have a fair amount of experience with local, regional, national & (some) international charities; religious & secular; RC, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim & other. Don't dismiss all because of the selfishness of the few. The good guys are of every color & religious/philosophical/political persuasion. So are the bad guys. They sit on both sides of the desk. Every day I can tell a story of courageous struggle - or of a scam - I'll let God (or karma, or whatever one wishes to say) sort it out. I'll try to do my best in the meantime, failing & succeeding on a daily basis. That's all any of us can do - that's all we are expected to do.

    Peace
