In My This Old House... I broke the radiator pipes.

The vertical pipes coming up from the basement ceiling to feed my old radiators lasted a lifetime. 79 years or so. I installed a laminate floor under the radiators and the pipe walls had no structure left. waterworld. I got an estimate to fix two (totally forgetting about a third) and wonder now (7 weeks later, the asbestos abatement happened in the meantime) instead of sinking 1400 into the repair, would radiant floor be feasable? There are no nails going down and I have complete access to the underfloor of the first floor and can easily expose the under floor of the bathroom upstairs floor. Does anybody have a clue re:pex and house circa 1926? I love the concept. I appreciate the wall. Happy new year!!!

Anything is possible
But your repair cost will be much less then a full radiant install. Do you have steam now? Are you prepared for the cost of a new boiler, zoning controls and thermostats? I assume you'll be leaving the 2nd floor bedrooms alone since they cannot be accessed? It comes down to cost.0
