Dan, I agree 100%.

In fact, I am going to forward it to our distributor. It seems because they have a big blue oval, that the dealer is supposed to feel blessed to get what we are given.

We have a meeting set up to "discuss" some of the problems. They need to recognize that the dealers are needed in the chain.

    Just my opinion.

Feels good to say it, though.

    Couldn't agree more...

... some companies have policies against responding in public forums because their lawyers tell them so. Some are ignorant. The rest are plain lazy.

I hope that the time and effort that regular corporate contributors to the Wall put into it will be repaid with higher sales in the end. They certainly deserve it, just as the contractors that support the Wall deserve to get more customers in return for posting their wisdom here.

From what I can tell, some of the most prolific and thoughtful posters are also some of the busiest installers. Correlation =! causation but the evidence is mounting.

I certainly concur...manufacturers' should be commenting and "clearing the air" when required. Corporate distance not required. Defense Defense.

    I agree 100%

It is obvious which companies are routinly monitoring what is going on here. Here at Rhomar we have already discussed what we would do if someone had adverse comments about our company or our products. We have decided to be extremely pro-active. And this decision was made for precisely the reasons that Dan mentioned in his blog.

A good industry reputation has great value that is well worth the time and effort to maintain in the public arena. Problems happen to all companies. It is how they handle them that is important. Hoping they will go away is an option, but not a very good one. Unadressed questions beget more questions. Straight talk and bright sunlight on a problem is the best course in the long run.

I read that blog post this morning and came straight here to comment on it...I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment. I read this forum just about everyday, even though one of our products (GYP-SPAN Radiant) is only tangentially related to the industry. the collective experience of the users here is probably closing in on the 1000 year mark; there is A LOT to be learned not only about what people are saying about your products, but about the industry in general. for instance the gypcrete vs warm floor debate is great information, even if some is critiquing the weaker points. im thinking about making a monthly or bi-monthly fax to our installers about "wisdom from the wall" with tidbits of knowledge gained. 15 minutes invested here everyday, no matter what part of the business you're in (or if you're a consumer about to invest a lot of money into a system), will manifest itself in many many positive ways in the future.

i also agree that pro-active responses are definitely the correct path. it not only shows to the customer or installer with the issue that you care, but to everyone reading it that you are actively involved in solving problems. ignorance is bliss...but last I checked, bliss hasn't purchased any of our products :)

  • and we're glad you said it Dan.

If you depend on hiding your inner workings and thoughts from others... whether you are a company or an individual... there is a reason for it. And whatever that reason is, it's not in the best interest of the people you are withholding information from.
