NEW YORK CARES - WILL YOU HELP? (Dan H.)

It's a small thing but it makes a huge difference in the lives of these women.

The details are here: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/103-6413413-8969444?%5Fencoding=UTF8&id=253B6G2D3ZD0S">WISH LIST</a>.

If you'd like to help, just go there and buy a book. When you get to the Ship To part, click CHANGE and select the address for Adult Education Manager. The books will go to New York Cares for distribution.

Thanks for caring about people you've never even met.
Retired and loving it.

    How about this?

Who will buy a copy of Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America for $9.75? It's a terrific book (sure moved me!) and we just need five more to close this one out.

Trust me, it's fun doing something like this together. We change the world in small ways. And by helping others you're setting in motion the good karma that will be there for you someday when you need it. Everyone needs a hand at some point in their lives.

    Thanks. Hug your kids.

    Choices

    Dan,

I noticed somewhere between logging in and logging out (Amazon) there was a choice new or used. I made a new purchase, but was courious as to the condition of the used books? Has anyone clicked on the used books for this. Would it be better to purchase and donate 10 used books as opposed to 1 new book? Or are these books loaned to kids or are they given as gifts to keep?

Any how "New York Cares" is very fortunate to have you on their side.

    Bud

    Thanks, Bud.

We're looking for new books. These are gifts to the women in the shelters. Most of them have never owned a new book. You have to see the looks on their faces when they get them. They touch the new covers and look at the books and the smiles are something beautiful to see.

Often, what means so little to most of us means so much to someone living in a shelter. Thanks.

Even though the holidays are over

    people still need a hand.

The day before Thanksgiving, I team-lead a food project at a shelter in Times Square. We had 20 volunteers and I must have turned away another hundred who wanted to help on that day. It was that time of year. Sort or like right after 9/11. Everyone wants to help.

Since the project was full I couldn't accept any more volunteers, though. I suggested to these people that they volunteer for another project after Thanksgiving. People still need help then, even though the holiday is over. But few volunteer then.

    People are interesting, aren't they?

How about helping me out with this book list?

    Thanks.
