Can anyone tell me why the Flexcon Fill-Rite 300fv and Taco 3350-T pressure reducing/fill valves are sold as boiler fill valves and they're only rated for 140 degrees? Can I use them on residential boiler installations, or am I asking for trouble?

because make up water isn't heated
Bob,
These are designed to be plumbed from the incoming building water, which would never come close to this temperature. They are not in the hot water path so I don't see a problem. If you're nervous, make sure these is a reasonable run of pipe between the valve and the point where it mixes with the heated boiler water.
