Danfoss Radiator valves,

We have purchased a condo in a new building. The radiators are equipped with Danfoss valves to regualte the temperature. We found that they created an alomst incessant banging sound in some of the apartments and also were not working so that these apartments were stifling and there was no way to control the temperpature. Also energy wasteful considering we now had to open our windows. They replaced some of them but I now find that I can't regulate the heat in my apartment whereas before I could at least turn it off--banging or not. cna you give us any advice/

Thanks--Mary Creede, President, Columbia Gardens condminiums

    Danfoss TRV Banging

TRVs are directional regarding flow. 99-to-1 that the valves doing the banging are installed backwards--that's exactly what happens. If they are of the angle variety, you have to move to the other side of the radiator. If the straight version, just turn them around.

    Mary,
Lots of questions. Let's start with is it a steam or a water system. Mike is right on a water system, the banging valves are an indication of the valve in backwards, on a steam system, banging usually indicates a pitch problem or system probem. Please contact me at dennis_wood@danfoss.com and we can explore some possibilities.
