hot rodding the Grundfos Super Brute

about jazzing up this wonderful circ pump.

For under 2 bucks you can get these green lights from Radio Shack. A 9/32" drill bit (I wobble my 1/4" bit:)easily drills the plastic case in any one of several locations.

Slip in the bulb and wire to the quick connectors.

Let's face it, circ stick mainly due to the water of fluid conditions they are exposed to. Know that not every system will see optium fluid conditions, Grundfos engineers have added this tickler that vibrates and helps dislodge a potentially stuck pump. Much better than turning them into a toaster :)

I'm still trying to find a good way to add pressure test ports on both ends of the volute. Not much meat for drilling and tapping, anymore :) I need a 1/16" pipe nipple and tap!

Sounds like a good project for

the Webstone iso flange people :)

I've been using a lot of these Watts purge valves lately. Find them inntheir hydronics catalog. Solder a couple to your favorite sweat flange any away you go. They already have a 1/4" threaded port for a gauge connection!

Now you have iso and test ports. Even a purge port if you get clever :)

The new 15-58's are going to replace the old style & the only ones I've been able to get was from the ISH.-NA. Special order for me and 6-8 weeks out.

I sure wish they would tell us this before demonstrating in the glossy's of PM & Contractor.

The old style is the same as the new with small improvments. Now a BX connector fits onto the box and the thing also looks much cooler! Grundfos is allways improving and that's why it's my pump of choice.

    I have used the ...

new ones and I actually like the older set up better. the cover is more friendly...The rep told me they heard that the old style got complaints about the switch...some people had a hard time figuring out the way to switch speed...(I suppose the screwdriver was not handy???) I actually thought that it stopped the HO from messing around with things thaey should not be messing around with. I guess I will live with it. kpc
